After I finished school, I spent my gap-year as a Youth Worker, which quickly turned into 3 years! It was there that I had my first experience of Film Studies; I lead lunch clubs on "how to read film". We analysed, and broke-down, shots and sequences to show how everything you see in a film MEANS something. It got my hooked! So I went to Uni to study film, and I never looked back.
It only made sense that I would want to make films after that; it was where every spare moment of thought took me. Before then, I would at least have an equal obsession for music and computer games; but now they come up second. I still love them, but they can't compare.
Film helped me to embrace the fact that I am a geek; that I love stories (whether in fantasy books, computer games, or comics). It helped me accept who I am, and to love it. There is no self-consciousness when I'm behind the camera like there was when I was in front of it. It feels like home; like where I'm supposed to be. And that's what it's all about, right?!
