The ability to take a good photograph is infinitely useful across all professional disciplines. Conservation is no different. A photo tells a story of a thousand words, especially ringing true when it comes to raising awareness and making REAL difference in the world of conservation. This is why we believe that knowing the basics of photography can help you in any career path or it might just turn out to be your new favourite hobby.

This is why we believe that knowing the basics of photography can help you in any career path or it might just turn out to be your new favourite hobby.
Designed for beginner/intermediate photographers wanting to learn some techniques in the field and build up a portfolio of nature, culture and landscape photographs. Content would include daily sunrise and sunset shoots at different locations, editing sessions, whale watching trips for cetacean photographs, brand building, website making and social media marketing.

 

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course you will have learned:


A greater knowledge of DSLR cameras and modes – no longer shooting on the auto setting
Knowledge of the exposure triangle
An increased knowledge of advanced techniques – motion blur, depth of field, long exposure
Portrait and people photography
Astrophotography
Landscape photography
Professional editing techniques with Adobe software
Photographs reviewed and given constructive criticism by mentors and tutors
Created of a portfolio to show potential clients
Knowledge of how to build a brand and how to start attracting work
Each day would follow a similar structure:
Early mornings introduction to the days sessions then out on site taking photos
Mid day; back at base for editorial workshops
Early evening out on site again for more shoots
Evening present photographs taken that day for critical appraisal from FEF mentors and industry experts, eg. Sergio Hanquet
After this reflection session, consolidate findings from the days work, go back out the next day to take even better photos
Each day would follow a specific focus, covering the following modules:
Landscapes
Portraits
Animal
Nature
Whale and Dolphin; you will have the opportunity to go out on the AWdF research vessel 3 times during your course to take pictures of one of the 28 species of cetaceans found around the waters of Tenerife.
Sunset and sunrise
Culture
Glamour
El Teide
Astrology

Special Courses will run at certain points during the year, with a calendar of ‘special events’ happening on the island e.g. hiking El Teide, Puerto de la Cruz Carnival, etc.
