This new course - created due to industry demand - is designed to thoroughly train participants in becoming a key member of a Locations Department team.
Participants will learn from practical workshops and on-set/location experience on drama projects and commercials. This will ensure that participants leave the course with relevant practical experience - including working with the latest COVID protocols - and some valuable contacts for starting out in the professional world.
The Locations Department consists of a variety of exciting, varied and demanding roles, requiring many skills to be an effective part of the production team. They work closely with directors, producers, cinematographers, assistant directors and designers, providing all the information and support necessary for a successful location shoot from initial brief and scout to wrap and reinstatement.
The Locations Department is a key part of the film production team, finding ideal locations for the shoot, negotiating fees, terms and conditions as well as managing locations during the production and filming periods. They are also a key production player in the safe selection and managing of locations in the current COVID pandemic. The three primary roles are Location Manager, Assistant Location Manager and Location Scout.
This course combines practical experience on fiction film shoots with NFTS student directors with tuition and possible work experience.
The curriculum delivers seminars and workshops on all aspects of the job and across different genres of film-making, guest speakers and site visits to location companies, shoots and relevant authorities. It also includes vital Health and Safety instruction, leading to the industry-recognised Production Safety Passport.
