Hi, I’m Tyler King. I have a deep passion for film, TV and storytelling in general, and I spend a lot of my free time writing spec scripts on Final Draft and learning more about storytelling and film directing whenever I can, usually through books, websites, YouTube and just from watching lots of films and episodes of TV. Film and TV have been a large part of my life since I was very young, and I hope to one day write and direct my own films, and I know getting to that point will take a lot of hard work and time, which I’m more than willing to put in to any job or role that I find myself in. I graduated high school a year ago and have since went into university at Glasgow Caledonian University, but it’s not for me. The course I’m currently in, Media and Communications, is more based around radio and the news than it is film, so I’m hoping to leave soon and start working on my career in film. My friends and family all think I’m getting ahead of myself with my dreams to become a director, but I’m willing to at least try and make it that far, no matter how hard or how long I have to work at it. Last year I signed up for a horror short film workshop with TV Ayrshire that had me and around eight other people work together to create several different short films that were later all put together as an anthology. The last film in the anthology, titled ‘The Crow’, was directed by me. We didn’t have a script or storyboards to work with, which meant that the final film was a bit crudely made and far from perfect, but the experience I gained from working with all those other people and under a tight schedule and budget was invaluable. I also took a college course last year at Ayrshire College along with studying at high school. There I made a few short films with other creative people and I learned a lot about on-set etiquette, lighting and how to be part of a large team working towards a shared goal. I’ve also filmed several very short films on my own, usually using family members for the cast. They’re charming films, but they’re also extremely bad. And most of the projects I try to film with my friends eventually fall through, though I keep trying to make films with them anyway. I’m currently living in Scotland, but I’m planning to move to London in the next few months to start working on my career in film. Scotland has a very small film industry that I’ve found incredibly difficult to break into. Production jobs as runners or assistants are nearly impossible to come across and are taken up very quickly. I hope that by moving to London, I’ll open myself up to more opportunities to get on sets. Film is my one real passion, it’s what I want to dedicate my life to. The opportunity to work on any set, in any situation and under any conditions, would be great and would help me get closer to my dreams. I like to think I’m a fast learner, a creative person and a devoted person, and I would bring everything I have to every set that I’m on, just to make sure that I’m doing the best I can.
