My name is Melville Simon, and I am an aspiring French filmmaker passionate about daring humanist Cinema. I hold a bachelor’s degree in politics, Philosophy, and Economics from the University of Exeter, where I focused my studies on the media industry’s economic and political dimensions. My academic journey culminated in a research project analyzing the international distribution and production of film and high-end television (HETV) in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a particular emphasis on the evolution of independent cinema from an economic and political perspective. My passion for philosophy has shaped my vision as a storyteller, driving me to delve into the complexities of the human psyche as a powerful foundation for compelling narratives. In parallel with my studies, I gained hands-on experience in the industry by working as a production assistant, primarily as a script reader. These roles gave me valuable insights into the filmmaking process and further fueled my ambition to create impactful cinema. As most aspiring filmmakers, ventured into writing and directing, supported by opportunities provided by my academic institution. These projects allowed me to refine my creative abilities and deepen my understanding of the art and craft of filmmaking. In 2023, my dedication led me to enrol at the renowned London Film School, where I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Filmmaking, specialising in Production and Directing. At the London Film School, I continue to build my professional expertise, working as a production assistant to deepen my knowledge of the industry’s business and funding processes. This hands-on experience has equipped me with strong project management skills and the ability to navigate dynamic, collaborative, creative environments. Additionally, I work as a freelance producer, fostering connections with emerging filmmakers and building a network of collaborators for the future. Ultimately, my goal is to become a prominent voice in the cinema of tomorrow, advocating for positive change within the industry and fostering the creation of boundary-pushing content.
