Photography has always been my chosen medium of creative expression. Through my lens, I can connect with the world and show others how I view it. In addition, the underlying messages and emotions conveyed in the movies have always resonated with me. The influence of the media to connect and communicate between content creators and the audience has inspired me to further explore the field of film production. The experience of being an actor in our College’s 170th Anniversary Musical deepened our understanding of what a meaningful story could achieve. I observed how the production team brainstormed ways to transform messages into a story on stage and communicated with the audience. Working with the directors, actors, musicians and backstage crews taught me the importance of teamwork and exposed me to different types of media, including the film and music. I became the director, screenwriter and video editor of my College’s Christmas Ball Promotional Video in the following year, and gained hands-on experience in media production. I learnt how to frame shots, guide actors and create visual experiences to express my idea and engage the audience. Although one of the actors was unexpectedly infected with COVID-19, we made slight adjustments to the storyline to meet the deadline while keeping the main theme and storyline, which taught me that it was important for filmmakers to improvise. At school, I was the founding chairman of the AR/VR Club. Our club teaches students to film and (360-degree) video editing skills. In addition, we introduced an ambitious topic, Metaverse, and participated in VR collaborative games, which further deepened my understanding of emerging technology concepts. To further pursue my interest, I created a YouTube Channel, sharing original songs and videos to influence the viewers. I was even invited to write a song and create videos to encourage students in the College to prepare for their public exams. The song was then launched on social media platforms to promote and offer me an insight into digital marketing as well as the impact of social media on sharing content. As the President of the Students’ Association, I deeply understand how the media can bring students together and start conversations in the school community. I was honored with the “Student of the Year - Best Devotion to School” award by the South China Morning Post. With strong leadership and communication skills, I effectively collaborated with a team to handle various tasks, paying attention to detail and organizing a smooth plan. Serving as a master of ceremonies for events such as Concerts and College Open Days has enhanced my expressive skills and composure. As one of the persons in charge of the Joint-School Photography Competition, we offered students a platform to unleash their creativity through social media, learn from others and build connections among different schools. Similarly, as an editor and website designer for the school magazine, I was once invited to interview a prominent political figure, Mr Jasper Tsang, who is the former president of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. Through writing articles that cover a range of topics from school events to global politics, we aimed to educate and entertain readers. I understood how well-organized content could amplify voices and the seriousness of media bias affecting the public discourse. I strive to be a media thinker and practitioner who is not only focused on content but also aware of the media's social and ethical influence, such as media bias. Moreover, I aim to be a responsible storyteller who breaks stereotypes, amplifies public voices and ensures my content is accurate and fair enough to contribute positively to the community.
