May 2021 | Screen Daily

Bafta has emailed its members with an in-depth statement responding to the allegations made against Noel Clarke.

"Bafta suspended ”until further notice” Noel Clarke’s membership and his recent Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award in light of allegations of sexual misconduct in an article in The Guardian on Thursday (April 29). Clarke has denied the allegations.

In the new statement, which can be read in full below, Bafta said: “we did not know about any allegations relating to Noel Clarke prior to the announcement of the Outstanding Contribution To British Cinema award on 29 March”.

Bafta adds that following the announcement, they “received anonymous emails of allegations in relation to Noel Clarke”, but “no firsthand allegations were sent to us.”
